Stan Spencer
Career Highlights
Stanley Reed Spencer is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist whose life has been defined by a relentless dedication to his craft. A Florida native born into a musical household, Stanley’s journey began under the tutelage of his mother, a piano teacher, before he found his stride in the discipline of school marching bands. While he excelled on the saxophone—earning a college scholarship for the instrument—it was the electric guitar that truly captured his spirit.
At age 10, Stanley took the foundational theory he learned on the sax and applied it to the guitar. Entirely self-taught by ear, he developed a rare proficiency for reproducing complex notes and tones without ever taking a formal lesson. This natural intuition, combined with a disciplined education that often included three music classes a day, forged him into a versatile powerhouse capable of shifting seamlessly between guitar, saxophone, flute, and piano.
A Career Formed on the Road
Stanley’s professional career ignited at just 16 years old with a high-profile debut in Ft. Pierce, Florida. Since then, his music has taken him across the United States, Mexico, and Europe. His resume is marked by major milestones, including:
Opening for numerous national acts and headlining major festivals.
A 1980 performance at the Jacksonville Coliseum for presidential candidate’s convention.
Decades of touring the South Florida circuit, living the true musician’s life on the road in his vintage Airstream camper.
The Gear and the Influence
If Stanley has a musical soulmate, it is his 1975 American Fender Stratocaster. Purchased when he was 18, the guitar—originally white, now seasoned to a vintage yellow by years of "blood, sweat, tears, and bar smoke"—remains his primary instrument and is even immortalized in ink on his forearm.
His sound is a masterclass in Classic Rock, Blues, and Southern Rock, heavily influenced by the greats:
The Icons: Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The Legends: Joe Bonamassa and the heavy hitters of Southern Rock, including The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Today
While Stanley possesses an extensive catalog of original compositions, he currently brings his veteran expertise and electrifying stage presence to the stage with The Barker Boyz, delivering high-energy covers that honor the legends who shaped his sound.
